Auburn University’s student population has grown substantially in recent years and according to new pre-census semester data, that trend looks to have continued in the form of record fall enrollment.
While the official numbers will not be released until September 9, the school revealed that it’s full-time undergraduate enrollment for the fall is currently 24,953. Out of that number, a record 62% are Alabama residents, marking a 4% increase in enrollment for in-state students in just a year. It is the largest amount of Alabama residents ever enrolled at the school at one time.
Auburn now has a total of 33,885 undergraduate and graduate students.
“Demand for an Auburn education and our transformational student experiences has never been greater,” Auburn University President Christopher B. Roberts said. “I am impressed that much of our enrollment growth is from in-state students.”
“This highlights the university’s continued commitment to recruit and educate the brightest minds from every corner of our state.”
Joffery Gaymon, Auburn’s vice president for Enrollment Management, credited Auburn’s growing national reputation for drawing prospective students.
“We are excited to see this type of growth in our enrollment, and it is a testament to the allure of an Auburn degree and the administration’s efforts to increase access to students throughout the state,” said Gaymon. “By expanding our reach throughout Alabama and beyond, we can continue to offer opportunities for the change-makers of tomorrow to pursue their dreams on the Plains.”
The university has added 110 new faculty members this semester, a net gain of 20 new educators, to help serve the growing number of students.
